“Human beings are social animals”. The most generic start to any high school essay now makes sense when man is confined into spaces which he is taught to see beyond. What seems to be the cause for this recent confinement? Global warming? Asteroids? Artificial Intelligence?
Would it be a surprise if I said certain blob like creatures with plungers for tentacles are the invisible enemy keeping us in check? All wail! A pandemic has been bestowed upon us! One which would dawn upon many realizations and scare men to step out under the sun. It is at times like these that we truly ask ourselves ‘Why did I take all those things for granted?’, other than ‘What Netflix show do I binge on next?’
There is uncertainty as to when this show is scheduled to end. While some of us pray for some interval time to go out and relieve ourselves, others hope freedom won’t be too inconvenient for them once this blows over. But being the occasional optimist, here are three positive outcomes that we might be looking at after the credit rolls:
1. More attention given to health and well-being of self and others:
With a surplus of time to reflect on things, priorities would be set right. Good health and well-being would be cherished and efforts would be made to ensure it remains static. All of this not just for ourselves but also for others around us.
Think of it as giving up smoking not just for the sake of your own lungs but the others huddled around you as well. However, the only Nicotine you would get to chew on are the nightmares from this pandemic.
2. Higher appreciation for certain professions:
Humans who get you through the hardest of times are highly revered. In this case, people who chose few professions which were very much underrated earlier. These selfless heroes and their professions would be held in high esteem and admiration after this harsh reality check.
3. Ditching James Bond and believing that tomorrow will indeed, die:
From peer groups already planning a Goa trip to Pammi Aunty skipping upper lip waxing, people all around the world would do things they always wanted to and never take things for granted. There would be a trend of living with no tomorrow in sight. All of this would be stemmed from the realization that Earth can do just fine or even better without us.
Flattening of the curve would ultimately bring about a lot of changes from how we lived our lives before. One would either come out of the quarantine period a yoga guru or plainly end up with a broken back.
But in the end, this entire experience that the population is going through together is bound to cause an evolution. Just like an epidemic does, into a pandemic.
